B Pharm University Of Pretoria, The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Pretoria strives to research the complex interplay between biological systems and the chemical entities that affect them. Through this research, the department contributes to the current understanding  of the processes that occur within organisms and contribute to the exciting field of pharmacology.  The Department of Pharmacology is situated on the Prinshof Campus of the University of Pretoria on the sixth and seventh floor the Basic Medical Sciences (BMS) Building.

Study

BSc.Hons Pharmacology

This one year full-time programme is offered to students who are in possession of a BSc degree with Anatomy, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology or Physiology as main subjects. This programme teaches research methodology and pharmacology in various fields that the department specialises in.
The Department of Pharmacology hosts an orientation day during the month of August to offer insight into the honours degree. Students are encouraged to attend this to help assist in postgraduate decisions. Attendance of the orientation session in no way affects the decision of the selection committee. Furthermore, the orientation is held on the same day as the Faculty of Health Sciences Research Faculty Day, where students will showcase results from their research projects. Students are welcome to attend these poster and podium presentation sessions to gain insight into the focus areas of the department, as well as other’s in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

MSc Pharmacology

This two year full-time programme is offered to students who are in possession of a BPharm or BSc.Hons degree in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology or Physiology.

MPharmMed Medical Pharmacology

This is a three year modular programme offered to students who are in possession of a MBChB degree. The aim is to train doctors in clinical pharmacology and core therapeutics in a wide range of disease entities.

PhD Pharmacology

This three year full-time programme is offered to students who are in possession of a MPharm or MSc degree in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology or Physiology.

Pharmacy

The pharmacy supplies medication and clinical diets for patients within the hospital. Clinical diets for example joint, skin or intestinal diets are also sold to the public, as are general over-the-counter products such as shampoos, dewormers, tick/flea products; nutritional supplements; etc.
