Transoranje School for the Deaf enables learners of the five Institute schools to reach their potential within a Christian ethos, through the application of resources and services to that end.
Application of normal school syllabuses
Transoranje School follows the curriculums of the Gauteng Department of Education for primary and secondary education up to and including grade 12. This ensures that as many as possible learners acquire conventional skills so that they can eventually find employment in the economic labour force.
All standard school subjects such as languages, mathematics, accounting and commercial subjects are offered, as well as practical, commercial, technical and life orientation skills. The curriculums are adjusted so that they will be “deaf friendly”. Matriculants who pass, obtain an NSC endorsed five subject certificate.
Spiritual development
Religious education and the presentation of life skills techniques are the cornerstones for providing a healthy life balance and for the development of the learners. They are constantly encouraged to cultivate strong moral and spiritual values so that they can be responsible, empathic and fully-fledged citizens.
Sport/culture
Enthusiastic participation in organised kinds of sport takes place, such as rugby, netball, athletics, badminton, chess and swimming. During the past few years the school’s sign language choirs have become known with their performances with well-known artists, and they also perform regularly at churches and functions. Various musical productions have already been staged, and international concert tours have taken place, to Argentina in 2005, South Korea in 2007, and Turkey in 2010.
