History
The university was established January 2005 following the merge of the Cape Technikon and the Peninsula Technikon. A plan implemented by the Ministry of Education in 2002 for the unification of higher education institutes into Universities of Technology in South Africa.
The name was approved in 2003 and in 2005, Cape Peninsula University of Technology was officially launched. The first vice Chancellor, Prof Lineo Vuyisa Mazwi-Tanga was appointed in 2006.
In May 2008 Trevor Manuel was appointed the first chancellor.
