Madzivhandila College of Agriculture was established in 1982 as an affiliated institution of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry of the then Venda government.
The College is situated only 15km east of Thohoyandou (next to Nandoni dam) in the Vhembe District. The college is well positioned, adequately resourced, and properly capacitated to provide the necessary skills, focusing on agricultural education and training. The main purpose of establishing the Colleges was to train agricultural extension workers for the Department of Agriculture.
In 2005 the colleges shifted from Higher Education to Skills development as directed by the provincial Department of Agriculture. The shift meant the college started offering short courses and learnership programs in animal and plant production and conduct participatory research. The main clients now, were the farming community and extension officers.
