RUGBY

One of the two major winter sports, the school has 28 rugby sides (but against Afrikaans Hoer Seunsskool, fields up to 30 rugby teams). There are six rugby fields at PBHS and each team practices at least three times a week. Various teams undertake tours for different age groups around South Africa. Outside of the province, the school plays Maritzburg College and Grey College annually.

Grade 8 Application process for 2024

The GDE Application Process for Grade 8 2024 is expected to commence in the third term. As soon as we are notified of the dates we will post them on this website as well as on our social media.

Once the GDE Application Process opens, you will need to apply via their website, www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.

You will be required to upload the following documents:

  • Copy of your son’s latest school report
  • Copy of your son’s unabridged birth certificate. If you do not have an unabridged birth certificate for your son, please make application for one with Home Affairs and attach the abridged birth certificate, as well as a copy of the receipt.
  • Copy of both parent’s ID’s
  • Copy of either your Water and Lights account, or Lease Agreement not older than 12 months.

After successfully completing your GDE application, please complete the PBHS information form (this will only be available once applications open) and email it to [email protected].

Grade 9 – 11 Application Procedure

The School Governing Body has resolved that the Headmaster will administer and decide on admission in accordance with the SGB admissions policy.

All Application Forms must be completed in full, signed and accompanied by:

  • Copies of both biological parents’ ID documents
  • A copy of the applicant’s unabridged Birth Certificate
  • A copy of the applicant’s most recent school report
  • Proof of residential address which shall be in the form of a utilities bill or a lease agreement (for a minimum period of 12 months) in the name of the parent or legal guardian of the applicant

Applications shall open from the beginning of September each year (for admission to the School for the following year).

Applicants shall only be considered should there be available space and if the applicant fulfills the requirements of the Admissions Policy which has been approved by the School Governing Body.

The residential address should be that of the parent or legal guardian. If the guardian is not the biological parent, proof of legal guardianship (as recognized by SA law), including a commitment to pay school fees, must accompany the application. The applicant must permanently reside at that address.

Applicants will only be contacted if their application is successful.

DAYBOY ADMISSION POLICY

Based inter alia on the number of educators, the school’s facilities, and the choice of subjects offered at the school, the school shall admit no more than 1550 students at any time. Grade 8 classes shall be no bigger than 30 students per class.

The language of instruction at the school shall be English with the obvious exception of other languages offered as additional languages. It is in the best interests of the pupil that they are able to cope in an English medium environment.

Priority will be given to pupils whose parents/legal guardians (as recognised by SA law):

  • comply in full with the Admission Procedure, submitting all documentation on time, and
  • who permanently reside in the area for which the School is the nearest suitable school.

If space permits, following the application of these criteria, preference will be given to pupils who:

  • have specialised skills or talents that the school has the potential to develop, or
  • who have strong academic ability to be able to cope with the high standards expected at the school, or
  • are able to cope in a traditional boys school environment.

Preference will also be given to those who:

  • have siblings who are either at the school or who are Old Boys of the school, or
  • have a father who is an Old Boy of the school.

DAYBOY APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

The School Governing Body has resolved that the Headmaster will administer and decide on admission in accordance with the SGB admissions policy.

Grade 8 applications must be done via the Gauteng Department of Education’s online process during the admission period (as decided by the GDE).

The Application Forms for Grades 9 to 11 must be printed from the link above and completed in full and signed by both parents or legal guardians.  All supporting documents must be submitted together with the application form.

Application forms for dayboys for Grade 9-11 shall reach the Admissions Secretary by the end of the third school term of each year (for admission to the School for the following year). Admission to Grades 9 – 11 shall only be considered should there be available space and if the applicant fulfills the requirements of the Admissions Policy, which has been approved by the School Governing Body. Only successful applicants will be contacted.
