What does Application to University of South Africa mean?
If you want to study at any institution, be it a school, a college or a university you first need to apply and see if you are accepted. At University of South Africa you first have to apply, and you can only register if you are first accepted.
If I apply now when can I study at University of South Africa?
If you apply when applications open in August then you will hear in December if you are accepted at University of South Africa. If you are accepted then you can register in January to study in 2018.
How do I apply at University of South Africa?

Choose your qualification
Choose a Qualification by looking through the University of South Africa brochure and make sure you meet the admission requirements.
It is important to remember the University of South Africa requires you to do all your own research and decide which qualification suites your chosen career, and whether ODL (open distance learning) is right for you.

Fill in the form
You must apply for admission to University of South Africa by filling and submitting the admission form.
Remember to fill in your top two choices, in order of preference. If you are accepted on both programmes you may only choose one qualification to study.

Submit documents
- Certified copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate)
- Certified copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (please note that internet copies will not be accepted)
- Certified copy of your ID document (RSA students) or passport (international students)
- Certified copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
- Certified sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans
- DSAR04 form and supporting documents if you are applying for exemptions
Remember that these all have to be given in electronic format, and University of South Africa does not supply any copying or scanning devices for you.
You also need to scan them in the right format, ensuring that the file is no bigger than 2MB, all documents are in black and white, and are saved either as a PDF, TIF or DOC. No other file extensions will be accepted.

Receive your student number
If you are accepted to study at University of South Africa you will you will receive a student number. Remember this student number as you’ll use it for signing up on the student portal my.unisa.ac.za, and in all further communications with the university.

Application fee
You must thereafter pay a non-refundable application fee of R105. If you are registering for non-degree purposes you can apply with hard copy, and this will cost you R160.

University of South Africa will get back to you to inform you about the outcome of your application.

Once your application is successful, it is now time to register your modules and start studying!
