University Of Limpopo Department Of Education, The School of Education is one of three schools in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Limpopo’s Turfloop Campus. Its vision is ‘to be a leading African Centre of excellence that produces highly skilled and competent educators of international standard in a rural setting’. The School is primarily committed to rural regeneration, empowerment, and development through lifelong learning approach to learning and interdisciplinary research in a caring environment.
The vision and mission of the School stem out of the rural reality of the Province of Limpopo in which the University and the School are situated. From where it is situated though the School of Education serves the whole of South Africa and in particular the two rural provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
Through our programmes, and especially through Teaching Practice, we want our students to engage this rural reality in very creative and critical ways. Our students must become the masters rather than the slaves of this rural reality.
The diagram below gives a pictorial representation of the vision of the School and the egg metaphor. In particular it highlights the transformational context within which the four pillars of our vision interact.
The School is committed to a core set of values that are reflected in a culture that promotes the development of personal and professional integrity and engagement for the benefit of our society. We subscribe to the values of the university, namely:
Accountability | Communication |
Inclusion | Integrity |
Respect | Teamwork |
Responsiveness | Receptivity |
Ownership | Opportunity |
Lifelong learning | Openness and transparency |
Innovation and entrepreneurship | Critical independence and academic freedom |
